After studying piano with Ernst Frank and Emil Paur and getting his musical training with Vincenz Lachner, Robert Kahn is accepted at the Berlin Hochschule für Musik in 1882 where he more than likely would have crossed paths with Herzogenberg. Fruitful encounters would embellish his career, one in particular with the famous violinist Joseph Joackim to whom he would dedicate his first sonata. On return from Mannheim, he develops a friendship with Brahms. After his military service, he settles in Berlin and devotes himself entirely to composition, writing his first string quartet and publishing his serenade for orchestra, created by the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra under the direction of Hans von Bülow. Recruited at the Berlin Hochschüle für Musik as a piano lecturer in 1903, Robert Kahn would train a number of talented students, including composer Günter Raphaël, conductor Ferdinand Leitner, pianist Wilhem Kempff, who would become his close friends. In 1939, he flees from Nazi persecution in Germany and heads for England. Born on November 13 1947 in Glendale, California, Anthony Plog studied the trumpet with his father then with Irving Bush, Thomas Stevens and James Stamp. In 1969, he graduated from the University of California in Los Angeles. He would lead a brilliant career as a soloist before devoting himself to composition and teaching, which he has been doing for many years at the Fribourg Musikhochschule. His work – of exceptional scope – is played very regularly and is marked by a great originality and rare expressive dimensions. Born in 1947, Yvan Jevtic studied at the Belgrade Music Academy and obtained his diplomas in composition in Stanojlo Rajicic’s class. He perfects his skills under Olivier Messiaen at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique of Paris and then with Alfred Uhl at the Vienna Hochschule für Musik. A winner of several international competitions, his works are played the world over by eminent soloists such as Maurice André, Radovan Vlatkovic and Gérard Caussé. Born into a family of French emigrants, Heinrich von Herzogenberg studied law and philosophy at the University of Vienna before devoting himself entirely to music. His encounter with Brahms would prove decisive ; he will always remain one of the closest friends of the composer of the German Requiem. In 1872, he leaves for Leipzig where he meets Philipp Spitta, author of the J.S. Bach’s first biography. Together they would find the Bachverein. In 1885, Heinrich von Herzogenberg was appointed composition lecturer at the Berlin Hochschule für Musik.
Trio Ap'passionato Stéphane Goyeau often plays the oboe, oboe d’amore and English horn for the major orchestral formations in Paris and abroad. As a soloist, he is constantly expanding his repertoire with creations by composers of our time. A lover of the most intimate music, he would concentrate on chamber music in sonata form with piano and with the Trio Ap'passionato. In order to communicate the teachings from his professors (Gilbert Flory, Alain Denis), holder of the Certificat d'Aptitude, Stéphane Goyeau now works as a lecturer at the Conservatoire de Fresnes and at the Conservatoire de Région de Reims. Stéphane Goyeau plays a Lorée Royal oboe. Michel Coquart began his music studies at the regional conservatory in Dijon. After successfully completing his studies in Germany and Switzerland, he went on to refine his art with Georges Barboteu and Barry Tuckwell. A winner of a number of international competitions, he regularly performs as a soloist and chamber musician. He has recorded several discs with the Japart’duo and the horn quartet Olifant, two of which are solely devoted to French music. In 1993, she moved to Europe to refine her art, attending simultaneously the Saarbrucken Musikhochschüle and the École Normale de Musique in Paris. A winner of several international competitions, she regularly performs as a soloist and chamber musician. In 2000 she recorded her first French disc for horn and piano.
